“There is common superstition in Cuba that a rocking chair found moving on its own contains a spiritual presence. Because of this, there is a custom of halting the motion of these autonomous rocking chairs. By geographically displacing culturally specific objects, I hope to expand upon how forms and habits change when the source is lost. By utilizing electrical conduit tubes and rubber tubing, I made a slightly off scale perpetual rocking chair. I am specifically interested in the translation of habits across cultures, and how assimilation affects tradition.”
