Lucas Maassen
Alvar Aalto and the Eight-Legged Stool, 2015
15" x 34.75” x 18"
Repurposed Aalto stools in wood, octopus ink, found objects
“One-of-a-Kind conceptual piece commissioned by kinder MODERN, New York for the Collective Design Fair in May 2015. Exploring the concept of ‘Nature vs. Nurture’, the process of creating the stool examined inherited vs. acquired talent and themes of education, influence and parentage. This third Lucas Maassen & Sons project was about finding context in objects that inspire them. For the young boys, this meant attempting to re-write design history with their father through the re-creation of the stool in a form more relevant to them, to make it more exciting without messing with its essence.”
